2022-09-23

According to reports, on September 15, local time, the Brazilian Ministry of Justice said that for the ban issued earlier this month, "requiring 32 companies to suspend the sale of vapes", giving local companies a 48-hour transition period to suspend the sale of vapes.

The ban is currently being considered by the Chamber of Deputies of the lower house of the National Congress, as proposed by Law 5087/2020, which "prohibits the production, import, sale and advertising of vapes, including vapes and heated tobacco products, as well as their accessories and supplements.

According to information published in the Brazilian Official Gazette, the companies mentioned in the ban include sites such as OLX, Enjoei, Via Sa (owner of the Extra, Casas Bahia and Ponto Frio brands) and companies that have excelled in the field, including Beetle Juices.

Earlier this year, the Brazilian National Drug Agency (Anvisa) conducted a public opinion survey on vape with the aim of gathering real scientific information to help regulate the product accordingly.

"Back in 2009, Anvisa banned the trade in vapes nationwide, and this year Anvisa has reasserted its position by taking an in-depth look at the dangers of these products to human health." Rodrigo Roca, secretary of the National Consumer Protection Association, said.
